Information About the Hotel and Conference Registration, etc.

 

Hotel Facilities

WOW!!! Room prices have been deeply discounted.  To get TransAction 2012 special room rate of $65 per night (single or double occupancy), call 1-800-247-8767.  You must mention that you want the NJ Transportation Conference Rate.  To get the low rates, you must make your reservation by March 19, 2012.

Guest Rooms:  All rooms have wireless internet and have been completely renovated.  When making your room reservation, request the South or North Tower, which are closest to the meeting rooms.  Further away in the hotel complex are the West Tower and the more expensive and up-scale Havana Tower.  Hotel checkout is noon.

Coat & Luggage Check Room is in the hotel lobby on the ground floor, South Tower.  It is open 24 hours a day.  On the last day of the conference, checkout is noon.  Check out during the mid-morning break and place your luggage there so you can attend the remaining sessions.

Tropicana’s NEW $280 Million Shopping, Dining & Entertainment now Open:  The Quarter.  This is a huge shopping, dining, and entertainment complex modeled after old Havana in the Tropicana’s Havana Quarter building, connected to the South Tower from the casino level.  It dwarfs the food and small shopping arcade on the ground level of the South Tower and has a dazzling array of shops, restaurants (one a Cuban restaurant offers dance lessons), and some unique watering holes (one offers 110 vodkas, one with glasses of solid ice, one with bartenders who can pour more than a dozen martinis at once, one an original Irish Pub from Ireland, and one the Red Square).  It includes an IMAX theater, the Comedy Stop Cafe & Cabaret, continuous and free entertainment in the Havana village square, a spa favored by celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, and scores of stores that range from designer purses to shoes, to Houdini’s Magic Shop, Brooks Brothers, Chico’s, Mondi, Swarovski, Cache, Panaderia dul Mundo, Melonie de France, the Old Farmers Market General Store, Jake’s Dog House (pet store), Ritten House Gift & Home, Chez Lingerie, Perfect Accessories & Leather, the Hat Emporium, Salsa Shores, etc. The Top of the Trop is the place to unwind with drinks and cool jazz with spectacular ocean view!

Outlet Stores:  Atlantic City’s The Walk is an outlet haven with scores of stores.  Convenient to the Tropicana via taxi, jitney, car, or walk the Boardwalk to Bally’s Wild West Casino, then walk west 2 short blocks toward the Convention Center and NJ Transit railroad station.

Breakfast:  For a quick breakfast try Corkys, A Dam Good Deli, Starbucks Coffee, or the Beachfront Buffet.  For a more leisurely breakfast try the Seaside Café on the second floor the of the South Tower next to the escalators.  (Remember; free continental breakfast Thursday & Friday in expo hall.)

Lunch and dinner is offered at several places inside the Tropicana at The Quarter and in the South Tower on the ground (boardwalk) and casino levels: Corky's Ribs & BBQ, Hooter’s, Firewater’s, the Beachfront Buffet, A Dam Good Deli, Wellington’s Steak & Seafood, Golden Dynasty restaurant, Brulee, and the Seaside Café.  (Best buffet is in Bally’s Wild West Casino.)  Want a spectacular meal, then try Carmine’s - famous for its exceptional family-style Italian food.  Red Square is a fine restaurant with a real ice bar 60’ long!  The Ri-Ra Irish Pub was a classic Pub imported from Ireland and reassembled in the Trop!  Adam Good Crab Shack & Sports Bar is great too. (Remember: free lunch buffet Thursday & Friday in Ballroom, North Tower - Paid in advance Lunch Ticket Required.) 

Pool, Jacuzzi, Exercise Room:  Conference Overnight Guests get free use of these facilities.

Gambling:  Good News for Counties & NJT:  8.5% of the casino taxes generated for the state are dedicated to fund county transportation systems for seniors and disabled in NJ and some NJ Transit services.

Boardwalk:  Take a stroll on America’s first and largest boardwalk or walk along the surf on the beach.  Enjoy the sea breeze and fresh air.  Walk one way and return by Rolling Chairs (prices are negotiable).  There are 100's of stores, casinos and eating places and arcades.

Important Conference Information  

Parking:  $5 per day city parking tax, except hotel guests which is $5 per stay (unlimited days).  Valet is $10 per stay.

Meeting Rooms:  All are on the 4th floor – South Tower, one meeting room is in the North Tower (4th floor).  

Conference Registration Package, Gift, and Walk-in Registrations:  In the Exhibit Hall, South Tower, 4th floor. 

Who Should Attend:  This outstanding conference and Expo is for Professional Planners, Engineers, Operators, Consultants, Contractors, Suppliers, Municipal, County, and State Representatives, and Not-For Profit and For Profit Agencies.

The Conference:  This conference includes new and changing programs, grant writing and administration, rules and regulations, technology, etc. for bus, rail, LRT, road and bridge, goods movement (rail & truck), pedestrians, bicycling, paratransit, senior citizen & disabled resident transportation, community transit and shuttles, ridesharing, welfare to work, parking, ferryboats, and much more.  Featuring experts from the federal, state, county, and local governments as well as consultants, operators, planners, etc. from across America , Canada , and England.

The Expo:  Well over 120 booths featuring an extensive selection of cutting edge, state of the art exhibits of transportation products and services from across America and Canada.

Great Door Prizes:  Drop your business card in the Door Prize Business Card Receptacle at the registration desk.  Business cards will be drawn Thursday at 7:45 pm, you will have until 8:15 pm to select your door prize from the wide array of items displayed near the registration desk.  Friday the door prizes will be awarded from 11:00 am until 11:30 am, same location.  Major prizes will be drawn and awarded at the reception on Thursday.

Continental Breakfast, Refreshment Breaks, and Reception Networking Session are at the rear of Exhibit Hall (GEC) in the South Tower on the 4th Floor between the elevators and escalators.

Luncheons:  Held in the Grand Ballroom (Salons 1 – 7) in the North Tower, 4th Floor.  Paid in Advance Lunch Ticket Required.

ACIP Certified Planners:  Last year more than 50 credits were approved and offered at this conference and a large number of sessions is expected to be offered again this year.  (These credits are valid for planners in any state in the US)   Appropriate workshops have been submitted to the ACIP Review Board for approval.

PE Certified Engineers:  NEW THIS YEAR!!  Professional Development Hours (PDH) will be provided for some sessions, including 3 on Ethics (For the 2012 renewal, 12 PDH Credits are required for New Jersey Professional Engineers and 2 of which must be on ethics).  Appropriate workshops have been submitted to the NJ PE Board for approval.

Message Board:  Located near registration desk. 

Computer Access:  Internet throughout the hotel, modest cost per day.  

You MUST have your NAME TAG for ADMISSION to the exhibit hall at all times.
